Product Groups

You can enable drop-down lists in the storefront to search for products. Visitors can select criteria of products to search from the drop-down lists to search for only the products that fit the criteria they selected.

Storefront View

The customer will see the search boxes such as the one in the highlighted area in the figure below.

Each drop-down list shows the list of criteria a visitor can search on.  For example, the drop-down list of "Search by Color" may show the item list of Red, Green, and Blue. If the visitor selects "Red" and click "Search", the system will show the list of products that match the criteria.

There could also be more than one of the drop-down controls. Customers can select one or more of the search criteria. If multiple search criteria are selected, the result will show only the products that match all the criteria.

Adding a new Search Group

Each drop-down list in the storefront is represented by one "Search Group". The search group is the attributes of products that can be searched on. For example, a search group called "Color" may contain search items of Red, Green, and Blue. Each product can associate either with Red, Green, or Blue but not the combination of all criteria.

To create Search Groups and Search Items, merchants can do the followings:
1, Click  the "Product Groups" link on the left menu of the Shopping Cart
2. Click  the "Add Search Group" button to add a new product group.

3. Enter Name, Display Name (in your Online Catalog) and Sort Order (order in Search Group) and click "Add" button to add a search group.

4. Click Back to the Product Options page and click the "Item List" link to add/edit/delete item in this group

5. Click "Add Search Item" to add a new Search Group

6. Enter the name of the new Search Item and click "Add".   Add as many as you want (Screenshot II below)

Once Search Groups are created, you can associate products with the search criteria.   Each product can associate with zero or more search groups.    For each search group,   you need to decide which search item will associate with that product.

For example, Product AAA may associate with "Black" from the search group "Color".    Product BBB may associate with "Yellow" from the search group "Color".

In the Shopping Cart, click on products > Edit
The list of search groups will be shown in the product page.
If the product is not in that search group, you can select "None". Otherwise, you can select the search criteria from the drop-down list

In your website Online Catalog, doing a search for "Red" will then bring up the product that you associated the Product Search as being "Red" in the step above
